PRINCE MAHIDOL HALLPrince Mahidol Hall The vision of a grand hall as the proper venue for the graduation ceremony has been a long cherished dream of Mahidol University since the first two presidents: Professor Chatchawan Osatanont and Professor Kasan Chatikavanich. However, budget constraints at the time postponed the project to ensure that priority was properly given to offering highest quality education and funding research. Professor Emeritus Pornchai Matangkasombut led the rejuvenation of the idea during his presidency. In 2006, the Royal Thai Government allocated 990 millions Baht to match the equal finance from the university.
WAT PHRA THAT DOI SUTHEPThe original founding of the temple remains a legend and there are a few varied versions. The temple is said to have been founded in 1383 when the first stupa was built. Over time, the temple has expanded, and been made to look more extravagant with many more holy shrines added. A road to the temple was first built in 1935.
PATTANI CENTRAL MOSQUEThe Central Mosque of Pattani is one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in Thailand. Built in 1954, the construction of this mosque took almost nine years. It is the center for Islam in the South. The architecture has some similarity to the Taj Mahal of India. It has a large, central dome surrounded by four smaller ones and two minarets. The mosque contains a large prayer hall and long corridors. It is fronted by a big pond. The Pattani Central Mosque is located on Yarang Road on the Yarang - Pattani route in Amphoe Mueang, Pattani.
THE CATHEDRAL OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTIONIn December 2007, the Diocese ordered the Father Ray Foundation, a charitable non-profit in Pattaya that operates an orphanage, school for the deaf, blind and disabled to vacate property owned by the Diocese within a matter of weeks. Representatives of the Foundation believe the Diocese plans to build a more profitable school there.
